Babe
BabeQuote: Babe is a 1995 Australian-American film directed by Chris Noonan. It is an adaptation of the 1983 novel The Sheep-Pig, also known as Babe: The Gallant Pig in the United States, by Dick King-Smith and tells the story of a pig who wants to be a sheepdog. The main animal characters are played by a combination of real and animatronic pigs and Border Collies.
Babe was filmed in Robertson, New South Wales, Australia. The talking-animal visual effects were done by Rhythm & Hues Studios. Although the setting and style of the film are distinctly British/Australasian pastoral, many of the human speaking parts were overdubbed from Australian to American accents for popular acceptance in the American film market.
The film was a critical and box office success and was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, but lost to Braveheart. The success of the film launched a sequel, Babe: Pig in the City, which was released in 1998 to mixed reviews. Babe is a magical film. Seriously, this might really be the sweetest movie I've ever seen. Very deserved Best Picture nomination. A

A terrific film, but I was young when I watched it
Could you imagine the shock I had when I learned it got a Best Picture nod a few months ago.
Very sweet, and very tear jerking. Started the whole talking live action thing.
B+
Will raise after I re-watch it.

Absoutely amazing film! I loved everything about this movie. It makes you laugh, and makes you cry. It is filled with memorable characters, and I especially loved the singing rats, they were hysterical! This is truly a gem, and a film that doesn't come around too often. I also really loved the sequel, although it flopped at the box office. The terrible rip-off Gordy came out 3 months prior to this, but it was a flop, and I happened to see it in theaters, and it was just horrible. The animatronics are not as convincing either, and they look terribly fake. Babe is much better, and make more in its opening weekend than Gordy made in its entire run, and it deserved it too.

One of my favorite best picture nominee from recent years. Cute, sweet, dark at times, but ultimately very feel good.
And the underrated sequel I think is waaay better. Should've done better at the box-office and at the Oscars (only one nod - Best Song!!!)

You're welcome!
I've seen that movie so many times on HBO that I bought the DVD!
I think Gene Siskel had Babe 2 as his best movie of 1998!!!!

A. A truely great film. When I first saw it, I was only 11 or 12, and I was shocked that it received a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars (I found that out a few years ago). But it deserved the nod. It was probably my favorite movie of 1995.

Wonderful movie and full of heart. Its a kids movie that also appeals to everyone of all ages. Underneath the movie is a hidden message about vegetarianism and it almost does a good job of preaching it. It was rightfully nominated at the time despite the backlash and criticism from other people(they probably kick heir own dogs)
9.1/10 A

I agree that the sequel was even better! Darker though, and I think that may have bothered some parents.

I need to rewatch Babe 2, though, it's been years.

Re: Babe
Probably haven't watched it since I was ten, but it was maybe my favorite movie ever when I was little. And I still remember many of the reasons why I loved it.
