Charley Varrick (a.k.a.The Last of the Independents and Kill Charley Varrick) is a 1973 American neo-noir crime film directed by Don Siegel and starring Walter Matthau, Andrew Robinson, Joe Don Baker and John Vernon. Charley Varrick was based on the novel The Looters by John H. Reese and is the first of four consecutive films Matthau appeared in that were not comedies.

Post Re: Charley Varrick
Hadn't heard of this one but it's pretty obviously a direct influence towards No Country For Old Men. Except it is hard to sympathize with the main character since he is directly responsible for so many people getting hurt at the beginning. Brolin's 'everyman' character was a lot easier to follow along. Varrick was still thrilling though and moves along well.

6.8/10
