Quote:
One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.

Post Re: All of Us Strangers
I saw this back in October at a film festival. Here are my thoughts. I do skirt around actually saying what happens. But if you don't want even an idea of anything that happens in the movie, I'd avoid the spoilers.

This is a very beautiful film. The performances are all strong, but Andrew Scott and Claire Foy are the standouts. I'm going to be very sad when neither is nominated for an Oscar. It will also be tragic if it's not nominated for Best Cinematography. It's been about a week since I've seen it, and I'm still not sure how I feel about
Spoiler: show
the film's final reveal. When it happened in the film, I was really upset with it. It didn't seem necessary. The film already had a lovely and very effective emotional payoff. Maybe I should have seen it coming. There's a very misleading quote in the trailer that says the film breaks your heart and then puts it back together again. No. It broke my heart, and then stomped on it. I think this quote is why I didn't see it coming and expected a different outcome.

This being said, the final shot of the film is stunning. It has haunted me ever since. The music choice is perfect. I don't know where "The Power of Love" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood has been my whole life, but it's an amazing song.

I am very excited that I'll get the chance to see it again soon now that it's officially released.

Spoiler: show
Maybe another viewing will help me come around to the ending. I know this is based on a book, but I think it would have been better if that was left out. We still could have had the gorgeous final shot, just under different circumstances.

The ending is my only issue with it.
As of now, it's my favorite film of the year.

A

Halfway through I knew that that ending was coming...

I liked the movie. I think some of the scenes with the parents were pretty great.

This was even better the second time. I didn't mind the ending this time around. It was also so much sadder on second viewing. The first time I saw it I cried once. This time I cried four times and wanted to audibly sob a couple of times but kept it in :P.

I am going to be so angry when Andrew Scott and Claire Foy don't get Oscar nominations. They're the best of the year in their respective categories, IMO. I do not see how someone could watch this and not think she's among the year's best. I'm glad the film and all of the actors made the BAFTA longlist. If it does really well there, which I'm expecting, I will have some hope of these two being nominated. The British Academy members should get behind it. I will never not be angry when I watch this movie if they're not nominated. I don't know where they went wrong with getting this movie out there, but Foy should have been a shoo-in.

I'm now confident this is my favorite of the year.
