The Northman is a 2022 American epic historical action drama film directed by Robert Eggers, and co-written by Eggers and Sjón. Based on the legend of Amleth, a source of Shakespeare's Hamlet, the film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe. Filming took place from August to December 2020 in locations throughout Ireland.

The Northman had its world premiere in Stockholm at Rigoletto Cinema on March 28, 2022. It was released early in some European countries, starting from April 13, 2022, and was released in the United States on April 22.

This normally isn't my kind of genre but I really loved this. It was completely engrossing, beautifully acted and mounted and impeccably made. A-

It was okaaaay. Way more conventional than I expected. Skarsgaard was good, Kidman not so much. The visuals were good/great but the movie failed to truly excite me at any time. Just another revenge pic with a touch of Eggers, that's it.

I thought Kidman's big scene was pretty great. Definitely the most memorable scene in the film for me.

Overall I liked the movie. A little slow but some of the imagery was stunning.

I agree with publicenemy, Nicole Kidman twist was good. The movie was pretty but a little to slow to be anything more than decent. Taylor Joy is beautiful as ever but her character isn't in the movie enough

It's good. Very well-crafted but kind of slow at times. The big Kidman scene was great. Not something I'd watch again but I certainly liked it.

Not nearly as great as The Witch for me but not anywhere near as godawful as The Lighthouse.
