Tom and Jerry (2021)
Quote: Tom & Jerry (marketed as Tom & Jerry: The Movie)[4] is a 2021 American live-action/computer-animated slapstick comedy film based on the cartoon characters and animated theatrical short film series of the same name created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, produced by the Warner Animation Group and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is directed (and produced as an executive) by Tim Story and written by Kevin Costello. The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, and Ken Jeong in live-action roles. Nicky Jam, Bobby Cannavale, and Lil Rel Howery also feature in voice roles, while the titular characters are voiced by William Hanna, Mel Blanc and June Foray, via archival recordings, alongside Frank Welker.
Originally intended as a live-action/computer-animated film in 2009, the film languished in development hell, with plans eventually shifting to producing an entirely animated film, in the same vein as the original theatrical shorts, in 2015. The film again became a live-action/animated hybrid, using the shorts as inspiration, in 2018, with filming beginning in 2019.
Tom & Jerry was theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on February 26, 2021, with a one-month simultaneous streaming release on HBO Max. It is the first theatrically released film starring the characters since 1992's Tom and Jerry: The Movie.

Re: Tom and Jerry (2021)
Generic story with the titular characters being side characters in their own movie. The movie tries to evoke some nostalgia and the hybrid live-action with animation does work well for most of the movie but where it fails is to bring the warmth the first series brought from these characters. I do not like the modern take of just cat-and-mouse violence that the movie doubles down on.

I liked the animation and Tom and Jerry's antics managed to get a few chuckles out of me, but I really didn't enjoy this unfortunately. I hated pretty much all the human characters, especially the one played by Colin Jost and Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael Pena's characters weren't very likable either.

I made it about an hour into this before giving up. It was so, so boring and cheap-looking.

I finished it. Early contender for worst of the year. Chloe Moretz should stick to movies like Shadow In The Cloud if she wants to diversify. D

What a strange movie to make now. This felt like a 2000s movie. Not absolutely god awful but totally forgettable.
