Its a good movie thanks largely to its cast but the movie feels too slight and undecided where it wants to land emotionally. Carey Mulligan is great here its thanks to her that the relationship with Ralph Fiennes works as effectively without the movie being overly manipulative. Johnny Flynn and Lily James' love story was the weak link of the movie and while the actors do their best to sell chemistry their story feels like a filler arc and is not given enough time to evolve. Once the government enters the movie feels a little too pedestrian and undecided what it wants to do with the main pair even the end cards feel ineffective. It works very well in the first two thirds and its a very well made movie technically and delivers the emotional notes thanks to its actors.
