Great performances from the three lead characters is brought down by sloppy execution and a script that is too concerned to show loss than love. Garrett Hedlund and specially Kelly Macdonald bring out chemistry and personal trauma and both carry the movie. Yet the best character of the movie is the sympathetic husband from David Wenham who in his small role impresses. The failed marriage and love story are not explored enough which is what bring this down and that ending is just too manipulative to leave a mark. The movie does handle emotions very well (a bit too well coming out as whiny if that could be a sub-genre) and it has beautiful backdrops of beaches (though not used effectively to build a love story).
