The Midnight Sky
Quote: The Midnight Sky is a 2020 American science fiction film directed by George Clooney, based on the 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. It stars Clooney as a scientist who must venture through the Arctic Circle with a young girl to warn off a returning spaceship following a global catastrophe.
The Midnight Sky began a limited theatrical release on December 11, 2020, before beginning to stream on Netflix on December 23. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising "the ambition and emotional tone," as well as its visuals and score, while others compared it unfavorably to previous sci-fi films.

Re: The Midnight Sky
This movie has all good ingredients great actors, big budget, decent visuals and a emotional arc but all these come only in one-or-two scenes and the core of the movie (which feels like borrowed and mixed versions of The Martian and Life of Pi) feels like run-of-the-mill survival story. The ending was also a mixed bag because the movie teases the conclusion from very beginning and some of the decision from astronauts felt stupid. The visuals are great specially the death on space craft but again that's just one big scene and it really does not add much to the main story. George Clooney is really great here and he easily transforms into a broken-man persona and welcomes you to his miserable world. The rest of the cast including Felicity Jones and Kyle Chandler have too small of roles to make any impact.

Re: The Midnight Sky
I thought it was decent, but it definitely had potenital to be alot better. It was honestly pretty boring at times, but all the performances are solid, especially Clooney and the movie does look great in terms of production values, but I just found it hard to really pay attention or care about any of the characters eventhough I do like most of the actors they got. Also, that twist with the little girl was super predicatable IMO.

Re: The Midnight Sky
Visually it's very stunning and the performances are very good but for the most part this is dull and hollow filmmaking. It comes off as a second rate version of Interstellar. C

Re: The Midnight Sky
Agreed with everyone here. Has all the makings of greatness but can never quite get there. I still mostly enjoyed it though for the beautiful cinematography and top notch acting. B-/C+
