Gorgeously animated and brilliantly scripted this animation movie has something for every age group. The simple setting of the village and nearby forest are done nicely. The movie reminded me a lot of Brave but a much better version of that movie with richly developed characters. The only slight issue I had was the ending and some of the transformations that were given just because script demanded but the very finale was brilliantly done.

I was a little worried about this one and put it off longer than I ought to have because of my mehish feelings on their previous film, Song of the Sea.

The worries were needed not. Wolfwalkers is a delight. It's been fairly compared to Brave, but there's alot of Mononoke in here too. Yet it still feels extremely fresh, just as those films did when they first came out. Sean Bean was a frustrating character at first, but his arc plays out well, as we see a broken man become whole again rather than just a stubborn father who needs to learn that girls can do things too. The bonds between all characters come together so well at the end. Robyn and Maeve have a friendship for the ages.

This is good but confused why it’s reviews are so much better than Brave when it’s so similar.

Brave’s reception has greatly improved with time. Pixar had a crazy good stretch with Rat, Wall, Up and TS3 and then we got Cars 2 to send that high off a cliff. Brave just kind of got caught up in that hangover. Now Pixar is doing Princess films? #LAME. It would get atleast ten points higher on meta if the same movie was released today.

I do think Wolfwalkers distinguishes itself enough though. Brave had very personal stakes while Wolfwalker is a larger man v nature conflict.

The animation blows away the story here, but it still honestly feels like Game of Thrones for the whole family which is cool. Soul is still the best animated film this year though.

WolfWalkers is easily better story than Brave with bigger stakes but ofcourse the later had better production values. I think this movie is much bigger in scope and has lesser distractions than Brave (its first act and kingdom themes doesn't add much to the main story other than bringing in comedy bits).
