What Lies Below
Quote: A 16 year-old girl returns home from camp and learns that her mother has a new boyfriend, one she intends to marry to, a man whose charm, intelligence and beauty make him look like he's not human at all.

Re: What Lies Below
A surprisingly solid little sci-fi horror flick. There's isn't much in terms of gore or onscreen violence, but I was quite engaged by it from beginning to end. It honestly plays out more like a mystery/thriller than a straight up horror flick, but those elements are definitely there and for a low budget B horror film I thought it was really well made, especially in the sound design/score department. The performances are pretty solid too, especially from Ema Horvath and Mena Suvari and while I wouldn't call Trey Tucker a great actor damn did that guy creep me out at times.
He fit the role perfectly IMO and I just wish we got more of a satisfying reveal/ending, because it felt like this director was trying way too hard being artsy by holding out on us.

Re: What Lies Below
Its good in what it tries to do in separate halves but overall it wasn't as satisfying specially because it never fully embraces any of the two concepts. The first half serves as a more erotic thriller (concept borrowed from a lot of porn movies but executed really well). The second half tries to be an aquatic horror/thriller and while it works at times it does not connect with what comes before or how the finale unfolds. The two lead actress were good and Trey Tucker got in a few decent creeps but he works best in the first half where he has nothing to do but pose and look pretty, while Ema Horvath carries out the tension. The story had a good potential if the two halves connected into a well realized story.
