The Witches (2020)
Quote: Roald Dahl's The Witches is a 2020 Mexican-American dark fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Zemeckis, Kenya Barris, and Guillermo del Toro, narrated by Chris Rock, and starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci. It is based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Roald Dahl and is the second feature-length adaptation of the novel, following the 1990 film of the same name.
The Witches was originally scheduled for a theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures, but was later pulled from the release calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was later announced that it would be available to stream on HBO Max in the United States on October 22, 2020, with a theatrical release in select international markets beginning on October 28, 2020.

Re: The Witches (2020)
This one will please the young ones but it fails to generate thrills or have any substance for it to be meaningful for mature audience. With mouse being the front and center it might even alienate some young kids. The story is decent with lots of potential but Zemeckis fails to decide which direction he wants to movie to go. It has good pace and energy that might please Halloween audience. Anne Hathaway is clearly having fun here and is easily the best part of the movie.

I thought it was a lot of fun. Anne Hathaway was great and was vamping it up to the max. I think it would have done well if given a proper theatrical release. B+

I prefer this one over the original, which I find to be dated looking. Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite actresses, and the production design is top notch. The CG is a bit cartoony though. Like that they kept the ending from the book, unlike the 1990 film.

Unnecessary, and too tame at times. CGI helps give it a little more life in the mouse scenes, but Henson's work was much more impressive. A lot is being discussed over the opening of the film being the only interesting aspects. I found Spencer's character pretty by-the numbers to leave any type of emotional mark.
