Spiral (2019)
Quote: Spiral is a Canadian horror thriller film, directed by Kurtis David Harder and released in 2019. The film stars Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Ari Cohen as Malik and Aaron, a same-sex couple who move to a small town with their daughter Kayla (Jennifer Laporte), only to suspect that their initial welcome from their neighbours Marshall (Lochlyn Munro) and Tiffany (Chandra West) may be concealing something much more sinister.
The film premiered on August 25, 2019 at Arrow Video Frightfest, and screened at other horror and LGBTQ film festivals through late 2019 and early 2020. It is slated to premiere on Shudder in September 2020.

Re: Spiral (2019)
This was decent, but it could have been a lot better IMO. I liked it more than Antebellum though at least and the potential was definitely there for this to be on the level of something like Get Out, but I just don't think it comes together all that well and I didn't find the payoff all that satisfying either.
The acting is great though, especially from Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and it's quite atmospheric and creepy at times, but that third act was kind of let down for me after all the buildup. Lochlyn Munro gives a pretty solid and sinister performance as well.

Other than Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman who is fantastic I found this dull and nothing to write home about. C

Re: Spiral (2019)
It had a really tense and thrilling two-thirds but it peters out in the final act and becomes a generic thriller. The initial setup really reminded me of Get Out and themes are something that Jordan Peele inspired but the lack of experience shows here. Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman was great here for sure but the final act is so hilariously bad and at times incoherent that it brings the movie down a lot. Still for the initial setup and theme I think this is better than Antebellum.
