Similarly cheerful to the last movie where colorful characters and music are the biggest selling point and it delivers in both of those departments. The new character designs are good as well. The final song is not as catchy as "Can't Stop this Feeling" but its still good enough while viewing the movie and the story moves at fast enough pace to keep the kids entertained. The big finale is emotional enough with a decent message. A good family movie that does not break any new grounds.

Glad you liked it. This was the last movie I saw in theaters so right now I might be biased but it was indeed a blast.

This was a vast improvement over the first. It’s a really creative premise, and the works is detailed and interesting. There’s a lot of clever pop culture references as well. The issues are carried over from the first film where I felt it was hampered by a need to constantly play to kids rather than delving into its decent ideas and characters. It’s hard to imagine the same people made this as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and HTTYD. But this was definitely worth using up a Fandango gift card that want gonna get used for months otherwise.

B+

Had to babysit my brothers kids yesterday and decided to throw this on. It is kind of the opposite of the first Trolls, which was bad until the end. This is one is quite good for most of it, but has a morally questionable conclusion. I liked how Poppy had to go through a journey of self-discovery and realize , even though it worked once, that insisting your culture upon everyone else is maybe not the best way to go about things. She also claims to understand this, and says all the woke things one needs to say about diversity during the final song. Yet, at the end of it, all of the diverse trolls in the audience are singing pop music and give Poppy a crown made of all colors - effectively making her the Empress of All Music. And then everybody lives happily ever after in an upbeat pop world. So isn't that kind of opposite of the thesis of the film? Am I thinking about this too much? Or were they trying to say that, even with the best intentions, white people absorb everything in their path until there is nothing left?

All the political stuff that may not even be intended aside, my favorite moment was Sam Rockwell's alternative country troll revealing his true identity. Big laughs.

I think you're over thinking it too much. The problem is that Timberlake couldn't build a convincing mash-up of all different music types for the finale.

But all types of music mashed together is still pop as long as pop is in there. Sonic dystopia must always carry a smile.

If that's how you take it then you were still over-thinking because they prepared you what's going to come from the beginning ;)
