Hangman (2017)
Quote: Decorated homicide detective Ray Archer (Al Pacino) partners with criminal profiler Will Ruiney (Karl Urban) to catch one of the city's notoriously vicious serial killers, who is playing a twisted version of murder using the child's game... HANGMAN, while journalist Christi Davies (Brittany Snow) reports on the crime spree, shadowing the detectives.

Hangman
Well, it's not great. But even this generic DTV-level serial killer movie is better than the theatrically-released mess of The Snowman. It has a recognizable cast in Al Pacino, Karl Urban, Sarah Shahi, and Brittany Snow (who I could've sworn was a porn star name), but unfortunately that's all it has going for it because the rest ain't good. The film muddles through the plot and clues to the end where the killer is caught and killed. He was a fucking genius up until that point. Evading capture and planning ritualistic Hangman kills to per-fec-tion, then fucks up and dies. Was that also part of his plan? Maybe, because at Pacino's funeral (oh yeah, Al dies), Urban gets given a note showing the start of another hangman game. Sequel, yes! Can't fucking wait! lol
It is a dumb film in some ways. Seemingly nobody checked the script. At one point Urban is talking about a "vic" (yeah, that's what he calls victims because he's cool) to recruit Pacino and he says "late 20s", then two scenes later in the autopsy room he says she is 24. Small detail, but it really annoyed me. Anyway, so the killer is playing a game of Hangman because his dad committed suicide because he got an eviction notice and then the boy had to go into foster care. The clue that Urban and Pacino are trying to find (though they never actually have a conversation about trying to work out the word, it's all about finding clues to catch the guy) is "EVICTIONEM" ... what the fuck does that even mean? Yeah, so lame film but then it's a Pacino thriller in 2017, so my expectations were low.
I'd still rather watch this again than The Snowman.

Re: Hangman (2017)
I'm with you, but it wasn't one small detail, it was like every small detail annoyed me about this movie. It's really bad from start to finish. Pacino god is sluggish (77 years old in this one, though I'll at least give him props for doing a really bad southern accent even though Snow and Urban who both make a point that they were born and raised don't have accents, nor does anyone else in the movie, lol)
I actually think the concept would have been interesting, but even by procedural standards this is really bad policing from start to finish (they never try to decipher the hangman clues and lol they seriously see the killer like 5 times and just let him go every time)
Reminded me of 88 minutes, which is funny because when I saw that I noted how badly out of shape Pacino was for that role with his horrible dye job and leather wardrobe, and here is back again 9 years later in the same wardrobe.
D simply because it was in focus.
