Though very nicely photographed and scored, this low-budget variation on the superhero film is too thinly sketched to satisfy. Imagine Chronicle by way of The Village or the American version of We Are What We Are: teenage siblings (Timothee Chalamet and Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka), both able to teleport, are isolated from society by their strict and religious father (Grant Bowler), but as his cruelty intensifies, they grow more rebellious. The agrarian environment where most of the action unfolds is captured with handsome, amber-and-green-hued photography, and the film is not without a certain quietly eerie atmosphere, but the story is so elliptical. Strands of the plot go unresolved or severely underdeveloped. Questions go unanswered. It simply never coheres into a cogent whole, and I almost suspect the film is partly intended as a see-what-I-can-do demo reel for first-time feature director Andrew Droz Palermo, previously a cinematographer with credits including You're Next and V/H/S.

C+
