Kinda lame, though Diaz is still hot.

It's hit and miss.

Hit: Coen Brothers script (though they could've written this in their sleep), Alan Rickman

Miss: Michael Hoffman (I think the Coen's themselves are the only one's who could properly handle this type of "Coen" film), and Cameron Diaz who does have hints of charm, but is mostly just irritating. With the right actress (Julianne Moore) it could of really worked.

It's somewhat fun, but mostly forgettable. Worth a rent probably.

I have enjoyed most of Hoffman's films. He is not an untalented director.

The Gambit

This is a charmingly told heist caper. While not the first to exercise the switch plot twist, it is competently orchestrated here, and heightened by the class its leads; the ever gentlemanly Colin Firth and the legendary Alan Rickman. The humour works. It is light and paced extraordinarily well for this brand of comedy. The Savoy scenes, in particular, are very, very funny.
