This movie was HILARIOUS. One of my favorite comedies of 2013 so far. It is stupid as hell that they are giving it a shitty release in the US - it could have done well. A-

Yes, yes, yes, yes! This is how you make a romantic comedy! Hilarious and original. Stephen Merchant finally gets a role where he can shine without being with Gervais (although his character was reminiscent of Darren Lamb in Extras). It's just a hugely funny movie with a premise that is pretty relatable. The Brit's have produced the best comedy of 2013.

All of the major comedic setpieces in this movie are absolutely hysterical. The bird scene and the photo scene in particular almost made me laugh so hard I cried.

The photo frame scene was priceless comedy, but the bird scene wasn't great - it was pleasant and a nice addition to the story, but as for laughs, not there.

I liked the counsellor on the phone to her husband, the games of chirades, and pretty all of the little remarks made by Rafe Spall. Oh, and Minnie Driver was excellent, as was Jason Flemyng.

Just watched this for a second time. Still great. Still very funny, and charming. You know what? This challenges Love Actually as one of the best british rom-coms ever made.

Perhaps I am just on the wrong wavelength, but I found this a bit torturous. I never felt at ease with the blend of generic romantic-comedy sentimentality and cynical, raunchy humor. There are two or three amusing sequences, the highlight being the one with the digital photo frame and the risque snapshots, but most of the one-liners and improvisatory antics land with a dull thud, and none of the relationships ring true to the extent required for actual how-will-this-turn-out investment. I was simply very bored. It is a shame, too, because so many talented people populate the ensemble cast. I understand, even admire, their vision--a film which nastily and naughtily upends romantic conventions while ultimately still playing as an accessible date movie--but it falls flat.

After a few months/weeks since seeing it, it still holds up well, very funny, but I'd give it a B+ now.

This was nothing special. I liked the actors involved but that's about it.

Rewatched. Hilarious and touching. It's up there with Love Actually as the best rom-coms to date. A

Watched this again today, and I should probably take back it's not memorable, it stayed with me that I'd seen it and how I broadly felt about it, just didn't remember specifics. But now I also found out that my general feeling didn't feel accurate upon reviewing it, it's actually got some really good bits and its way more hilarious than I remembered. Though the story as a whole I'm still not totally on board with, it's absolutely one of the better comedies I've seen since 2010 or so.
From almost every Merchant quip, to the charades scene and some typical relationship moments it's very funny and it's been a while I laughed as much with a film. The cast is definitely splendid too, well except for Faris, she has maybe a few good lines, but just didn't find her fit in this. In all anyway, it's pleasantly different than a typical rom-com, in fact it's an anti-rom-com of sorts and it works!

B+

Perhaps true in that it's all either mostly magnified or shallow, but disagree with that I think it finds a pretty good capture of different types of realistic relationships parallels. But even then, though the relationship strings aren't as developed, this won me over with the comedy.
