Re: Lore
A very interesting film set in the German countryside as the Second World War draws to a close. It is reminiscent of Forbidden Games, Time of the Wolf, and other films which show a time of intense chaos, division, and violence from a limited rural perspective. The youthful lead, Saskia Rosendahl, delivers a very fine performance, capturing perfectly the title heroine's growing disillusionment with her parents, members of the Nazi Party, and Germany's crimes against humanity in general.

Re: Lore
This film has stayed with me. I may buy the Blu-ray to see it again, and I am going to raise my grade to an A-.
Has anyone else here watched it?

Re: Lore
Yes I saw it last year and it resonates with me a little more now than when I first saw it.
A film from the perspective of a young German girl, daughter of Nazis certainly differentiates it from the usual WW2 fare. Her in inner battle against what she has been taught by her parents vs what she is discovering for herself is fascinating. Some may find the film slight but its worthwhile viewing.
I was also impressed by Shortland's directing.

Re: Lore
I have watched this couple times now, and it has grown and grown in my estimation. Truly a haunting, inspired film which deals with complicated moral conflicts in an intelligent and sensitive, yet also piercing way. A masterpiece. My grade has risen to an A, and it is among my top 15 or so films of 2013.
I am not sure why I did not flip for it upon initial viewing... Perhaps it was my mood on the particular night.

Lore
A grim, slow-paced tale of a teenage girl caring for her brothers and sister during Allied forces-occupied Germany in 1945, and her coming-to-terms with the atrocities and bleak reality of her Mother and Father's (and her nations') crimes. Good film, not great. I thought it recreated the time period and intertwined some interesting, if recurring, themes. Saskia Rosendahl, however, gives a great performance.

Re: Lore
My colleagues have ripped this film a new one, thus diminishing my desire to see it (though eventually I will anyway).

Re: Lore
They are certainly out of line with the overall critical consensus, which is very positive. If you are the type of person for whom critical consensuses are important.

Re: Lore
I was most impressed by how much atmosphere could be created with an obviously low budget, by a few clever techniques.
I wonder if Lecter's mates are German. Perhaps it's not a film for Germans.

Re: Lore
I watch anything, but considering my colleagues also despised Silver Linings Playbook, Shame, Beasts of the Southern Wild and 12 Years a Slave, I don't think they care much about critical consensus.

Re: Lore
I wouldn't listen to your friends much if they despised Silver Linings Playbook.
