Quote:
The Dead Pool is a 1988 American crime thriller directed by Buddy Van Horn, written by Steve Sharon and starring Clint Eastwood as Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. It is the fifth and final film in the Dirty Harry series, set in San Francisco, California.

The story concerns the manipulation of a dead pool game by a serial killer, whose efforts are confronted by the hardened detective Callahan. It co-stars Liam Neeson, Patricia Clarkson and Jim Carrey, each of whom eventually went on to greater film fame.

At 91 minutes, it is the shortest of the five Dirty Harry films. It was also Jim Carrey's first non-comedy related movie.

Post Re: The Dead Pool
The Dead Pool marks the fifth and final film in the Dirty Harry Franchise and it finishes off with yet another solid outing, and a step up from the original. Liam Neeson and Patricia Clarkson co star and have a lot good back and forth moments with Eastwood, who remains as solid as ever despite looking much older in this one. The thing this series has that always seems to been very keen on is tackling a social issue that was pressing at the time, but what's surprising is that the majority of the issues still are pressing today and I think that is what makes these films still so watchable even though they are 30-40 years old now. It has a good story and solid action (In particular perhaps the 2nd best action scene in the series since the first involving a scene that plays homage to the classic Bullitt chase scene) Jim Carrey also pops in for a few minutes with his breakthrough role. I think overall it's a hair better than the previous entry but only because this one has a much more solid script. Although Harry is more of a caricature at this point but not to the point of parody, he remains the no bullshit character John McClane basically modernized for the next 25 years.
