Post Re: Evil Dead (2013)
I wasn't a huge fan of the original. It was decent but overhyped and I thought it dragged a ton in its second half. When I heard the news on a remake, I was mixed. It definitely could use an update, but I didn't think it would do much to improve the source material.

Thankfully I am happy to say it does more than just improve the source material. You could tell that when it was being made it was being made by people who really cared of the original. The only negative thing about the entire movie was that the acting left a lot to be desired. The only good one was Jane Levy, and even she was really bad before she was possessed.

And yes. This movie is fucking bloody as hell. I am actually surprised it got away with as much as it did. It also has an amazing finale.

My 8/10 rating could possibly go up on another viewing. It was very, very hard to watch this movie because the projection was TERRIBLE where I saw it. The reels were put together wrong, much of it was out of focus, it jumped around 15-30 seconds three times in the movie and with ten minutes left the movie stopped for about ten minutes. So I definitely could see it going to a 9/10 when I see it again. This one will satisfy any horror fan. Hope you all see it!

And thanks Lecter! :)

It's somewhere around a B or a B+. The characters are stupid (I swear Shiloh Fernandez falls for the same "Hey, my voice is normal now so you should stop what you're doing, 'kay?" trick five times in the last half of the movie), but you won't care after a point because you're having so much fun.

I am a sucker for gore and this did not disappoint! Loved all those effects and amounts of blood used. The homages to the Infalable original film were truly satisfying. Great way to modernize a classic. Jane Levy was better than great. Couldn't think of a more perfect actress to play that role. Her performance: A

Everyone else: D
Very bland characters. Brutal stuff done to these people and it was great watching the gross out scenes involving them.

Beautifully shot and brutally nasty and crazy good effects topped off with bland characters (aside from Mia) and predictable jump scares I still would give this a solid B. well done Fede. Can't wait for the next one.

EVIL DEAD

I had the pleasure of seeing this twice so far. I was extremely entertained by this film. It has a different tone than the first Evil Dead. Less comedy though some scenes do make you laugh. It's extremely gory and bloody the way a classic horror film should be. Enough with the non-gory scare films we've been getting lately or the torture porn good and bad from things like Saw and Hostel. This is straight up bloody paranormal horror and I loved it. The film takes some time to set up but if you stick with it the ride it takes you on is more than worth it. The various encounters with the possessed were all excellent and the finale was intense and thrilling to say the least. I certainly hope general audiences show up and support this film.

Grade - A

One of the most entertaining films I've seen in years, and the best horror film since I can remember. It's terrifying, darkly hilarious, consistently intense and shocking as hell. The finale is INSANE. Jane Levy is absolute perfection in this role, cementing herself as the scream queen to beat for this generation. I also thought they did a great job of developing her character so that I actually came to care a lot about her. The rest of the actors were average-to-bad, but this movie isn't about performances. I can't believe how awesome it was - I had a huge grin on my face for the last 15 minutes or so. A definite must-see. A

My audience went absolutely nuts when...

Spoiler: show
Mia (Jane Levy) ripped her hand off during the climax.

Jane Levy was so badass in this movie. I already loved her before this and I'm an even bigger fan now.

I love that Ash's chainsaw gets a hero's entrance. This is a flick that knows its audience.

I am seeing it again tonight. So excited to see it with it projected correctly. It really fucked up my first viewing. I wish I waited and didn't see it the first time.

I've always found Jane Levy annoying in other things I've seen her in but she is pretty great in this. The rest of the cast is kind of just there. As for the movie I thought it wasn't anything extraordinary, guess my expectations were high. (and I did get sent away from waiting 2 hours in line for an advanced screening 3 weeks ago...)

And for some reason I was expecting something much more gruesome and hard to watch. What scenes did audiences react to the strongest? 'Cause mine hardly had any reaction.

An entertaining ride in and of itself, with an interesting taste for the extreme and the perverse (at least as far as major studio products go), but do not even consider placing it on the same shelf as the original films. Cold, admirable craft is not a lasting substitute for genuine, joyous inspiration. I laughed. I maybe gasped once or twice. I will forget it fairly soon.

I liked it, but I can definitely see myself forgetting about it over time. The gore and the finale are very well done, but I really wish there was a bit more too it than just ultraviolence and some interesting camera angles.

Unfortunately, I think the HYPE is a major negative for this one, because it never lives up to the tagline of being "The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience".

Then again what does these days ?

Isn't this tagline on most horrorfilm-posters since the beginning of horrorfilm-posters?

I know it's basically the sell of every horror film nowadays, but even the early reviews seemed to promise a MUCH better movie than what we actually got IMO. I dont know, maybe I got sucked too far into the hype and my expectations were too high, but I find it frustrating that we are getting these horror films that critics gush over, but end up disappointing atleast for me.

It's just like last year with The Cabin In The Woods and Sinister.
