The film stars Diane Kruger as the Queen, Léa Seydoux, and Virginie Ledoyen.
It opened the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012 and has subsequently been screened at other festivals. Its release date was 21 March 2012 in France.

Re: Les adieux à la reine [Farewell, My Queen]
Interesting film. In regard to each predictable measure of a period piece, it excels. The art direction is spectacular, as is the costume design. The idea of depicting the chaotic end of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's reign from the distinct, limited point-of-view of a servant is novel and produces intriguing results: this sounds strange, but it almost plays as the French Revolution's answer to United 93. History in the disorienting, living present tense. I wish the third act were longer because it is very suspenseful.

I found the film rather meh, but Lea Seydoux definitely needs more major roles. David, I recommend you to watch Sister if you get the chance.

Re: Les adieux à la reine [Farewell, My Queen]
There have been many film incarnations of Marie Antoinette, but Farewell, My Queen is different from any other version, in that it focuses on the last days of Louis XVI's rule, as seen through the eyes of Marie Antoinette's reader. This backstage approach, detailing the confusion that ensues in the servant's chambers, as well as in the palace itself, makes it all the more intriguing. Lea Seydoux, as the reader Sidonie, is disarming, and her emotive eyes guide us in her fascination with the Queen. We understand her decisions, however eyebrow-raising they may seem. Diane Kruger, as Marie Antoinette, is in turn, bewitching, and vulnerable. Farewell, My Queen wraps you up in the ensuing chaos and Sidonie's passion; Benoît Jacquot details the shift of power elegantly and organically, emphasized in its last shot. A
