The Double
It's not a bad thriller, if only for the occasional visual of Gere looking bad ass, but it suffers from the generic, the absurd and the obvious throughout. The two twists, both of which are not in the trailer, were kind of good, I suppose, but I'd have preferred for Richard Gere not to die.
It was good to see Gere back in some action, but Topher Grace pretty much ruined the movie for me. He was annoying and totally unbelieveable as a Harvard graduate, and I'm surprised he even knew what a thesis was, let alone wrote one himself. There was a lot basic screenplay conventions in the movie, and needless things that if I were a trained killer of 30 years, I wouldn't so easily give away, but apart from those the film does its job.
