Quote:
Lake Placid is a 1999 American monster movie with elements of comedy, horror, romance film, and the buddy genre. It was written and produced by David E. Kelley, directed by Steve Miner, and stars Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Betty White, Meredith Salenger, and Mariska Hargitay. The plot revolves around a giant, 30-foot-long man-eating crocodile which terrorizes the fictional location of Black Lake, Maine, United States, and also follows the dysfunctional group who attempt to capture or destroy the creature.

The film was produced by Fox 2000 Pictures and Stan Winston Studios (which did the special effects for the creatures) and principal photography was shot in British Columbia, Canada. The film was distributed by 20th Century Fox and released in cinemas in the United States on July 16, 1999, and in the United Kingdom on March 31, 2000. Despite some good reviews, critical reception to the film was generally mixed to negative. However, the film was still a financial success at the box office and it spawned three made-for-television sequels, Lake Placid 2 in 2007, Lake Placid 3 in 2010 and Lake Placid: The Final Chapter in 2012.

Lake Placid

It really disappointed me in the cinema on my first viewing, but since then I have come to take it as it's supposed to be taken; with my brain switched off. The funny thing is that I acted the same when seeing it in theaters and it still utterly disappointed me. I was expecting to see the new Jaws or something, and instead I received a movie like one of those shitty Megaladon movies. Platt's not really funny, Pullman's not really a hero and Fonda's not particularly attractive (in this), so it belly flops.

Post Re: Lake Placid
I was watching this on HBO yesterday. I haven't seen it in a really long time but it was one of my favorite movies growing up. It's not great cinema by any means, but it's so damn fun and Betty White is so fucking funny. "if I had a dick, this is where I'd tell you to suck it." BETTY! :P

7/10
