A great movie. For all of the Renny Harlin hate, he made this great movie in 2007, so not all of his recent movies have gone down hill, although most have. Good movie until the end, which isn't as intriguing. Sam Jackson gives a good performance, nothing spectacular, but solid, and his character's career is very interesting and the set-up is too. It's what I loved about this movie. It plays out well until the Ed Harris "shocker" at the end, which is just bullshit because a gorgeous beautiful woman like Eva Mendes does not fall for a sad, old and tired police detective and decide to have a baby with him - he's about 65 years old!

It's a film with 2 faces for me, it has a very good build-up, but the plot twist is disappointing and the film ends weakly. In some way you feel something with Ed Harris character is looming, but then when it comes out, it's hastily done. More development couldn't have gone in to that I think. Samuel L. Jackson is once again great, and Harlin also shows he has skills as director with the set-up of the film. In the end it feels sloppy though and the film fails to make a lasting impact.
