Re: The Moth Diaries I am not sure how to react to this film, to be honest. The performances are strong, and I enjoy the Gothic (in the literary sense) atmosphere. The film is aware of why the vampire myth is so enduring, from Dracula to Interview with a Vampire to Twilight, and tries to both honor and question the genre. On the whole, however, it never comes together as it should. It teases and flirts, but fails to ever captivate. Lasting just 75 or so minutes, the film is too slight, and it seems almost ashamed of its more overt horror elements. Gifted director Mary Harron (American Psycho) is asleep at the wheel; she should have tried harder because there was major potential here.
