Gere is terrific, and the script does an admirable job of making him neither hero nor villain - merely a man trying to make the best of his situation. The whole thing is painted with shades of grey, and the restrained, ambiguous ending is the perfect capper.

It doesn't have a whole lot to say about capitalism that we haven't heard before, but it's so well-crafted that it hardly matters. This is solid, first-rate entertainment.

Glad you enjoyed it. I found it extremely entertaining and interesting, and Gere's performance remains among my favorites of the year.

It is much more cinematic and suspenseful than Margin Call and Too Big to Fail.

Yeah good gripping stuff. Gere is good as is Tim Roth who needs to be in more films today.

Been planning to watch this for a long time and finally did tonight. Very solid film all around. Sarandon, Gere, Roth and also Nate Parker shine in this. The story is engaging from start to finish and I could easily call it a drama/ thriller of the finest kind. Gere really drew me in with his performance while maneuvering himself through his predicaments. It's hard not to root for him but at the same time the films brings things to a close with a satisfying end. It's simply a quality film, that would be high up my 2012 list.

Still believe Gere deserved an Oscar nomination for this. Perfect utilization of his screen presence.

Arbitrage

Brilliant, exquisitely made film. Richard Gere has such a way to convey the weight of the world on his shoulders while at the same time remaining calm. It is a progressively intense watch as it unveils each crucial, bite-size nugget leading up to its conclusion. And it has a great supporting cast too. Susan Sarandon, Nate Parker (far better than his turn in The Birth of a Nation), and Brit Marling are all excellent.

I remember watching this in 2012 such a great film and Richard Gere should have been nominated for this. I still remember his performance in this movie. Wasn't a fan of the ending but its wasn't bad.

7/10
