Re: Hope Springs
I really liked how there was not that many secondary characters and the movie got straight to the point. Jones and Streep really made the movie, with bad performances this could've been a dud.

Porn for senior citizens.
As for the movie, if it weren't for Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones this would've belonged on Lifetime. But they give the movie a heart that it probably otherwise wouldn't deserve. Steve Carell is pretty much wasted though. I'm guessing that he only agreed to do this so he could say he worked with both Streep and Jones. Can't say that I blame him.

Re: Hope Springs
This surprisingly intimate, emotionally authentic film benefits from wonderful performances by Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones that are lived in and consistently believable. Steve Carell does nicely gentle, low-key work as well. Borders on uncomfortable at certain points but that's kinda the point. For a mainstream comedy, it tackles a familiar subject head on rather bravely and manages to stand out. B+

Re: Hope Springs
Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones are both fantastic and the movie works because of them. Outside of their performances there is nothing really out of the ordinary here. It's cute and has several funny moments, but goes on for too long. Also, the soundtrack was super grating. Also was a shame to see Steve Carell pretty much wasted. Still, definitely worth seeing for the two leads, and a definite step up for Streep after the dire Iron Lady last year. B

Re: Hope Springs
Aww, this was such a nice little movie. It was surprisingly real and intimate and both Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones were great in it. It wasn't your typical romantic comedy at all and it was actually pretty insightful about the subject matter, and it never was afraid to say what it had to say either, which is nice. Definitely recommended.

Re: Hope Springs
This is... one of the best movies of the year? Can't say enough about TLJ and Meryl and I've been in the Meryl's overrated camp for a lot of her recent performances. What a gloriously human, under the surface portrayal.
Also appreciate this movie's structural simplicity. No B plots, no need to blow up Carell's role. Just Meryl and TLJ doin work all the way.

Re: Hope Springs
This is a very heartwarming, honest, sweet, and funny film. I regret not seeing it in theatres. Streep and Jones are both in fine form.
