Although not quite up to the brilliance of director James Marsh's previous documentary (the Academy Award winning
Man On Wire),
Project Nim is a fascinating examination of the relationship between chimpanzees and humans, as well as the nature of scientific research.
I find it amazing that Marsh could get all the original human participants to speak on camera in the present day about their roles in it. With the slipshod and cruel design of the central experiment, humans certainly are exposed for the uncivilized beasts we are.
Luckily, even with all it's horrendous faults, the original Project Nim experiment reveals much about both of the species of apes on display through this
Project Nim documentary.
One thing is indisputable - - mankind is fucked.
