Safety Not Guaranteed

Quote:
Safety Not Guaranteed is a 2012 American comedy film based on a YTMND fad that originated in a 1997 Backwoods Home Magazine classified ad by a person asking for someone to accompany him in time travel. It was screened at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

A wonderful, moving and often hilarious film, and my current favorite of 2012 thus far. Aubrey Plaza proves she can carry a film here and is fantastic in the leading role, and the rest of the cast is uniformly great. It will be hard to find another film this summer that is this imaginative. A must see. A

My second favorite of the year so far. Everyone was great, a fantastic story, and it also helps that Aubrey Plaza looked beautiful throughout it all. ****

I hope this continues to do well. A film this crowd pleasing, this rousing, deserves crowds.

I really hope so too so maybe it will, by some miracle, open here.

I loved this. A funny, incredibly charming offbeat love story. Aubrey Plaza is wonderful. I loved the ending too.

9/10 (A-)

Safety Not Guaranteed was the most enjoyable film I've seen in ages - - the story is so pleasantly surprising all the way through!

I've never made a secret of my love of time travel films, and this is a most worthy addition to the sub-genre. It's right up there with other greats from the past decade or so like Frequency, Primer, The Jacket, Butterfly Effect, The Lake House, and Deja Vu.) The four lead actors are solid, believable and in the case of the main two... subtly charming too.

343 out of 5.

{The release schedule for this movie almost seems willfully sparse - - they're not making it an easy film to see in the theatre. I wonder if this is a planned strategy to build cult buzz? At any rate, it's definitely worth the effort to seek this one out!}

Nice little film with some character. It does feel slight though

Great little movie about time travel. It proves once again that a great movie with a great cast can be made on a small budget ($750k according to IMDb). The story's trajectory is a tad predictable, but that doesn't take away from the movie at all.

I <3 Aubrey Plaza. Jake Johnson and Mark Duplass are pretty great too.

Safety Not Guaranteed

I enjoyed this. It plays with misdirection and movie convention. I thought that Jake Johnson was pretty great. He was helped with a good personal script, but he still played that role well. Duplass was also fantastic. The way he spoke, almost military in style, was perfect for luring us into believing he's a fucking whack job. Although the ending is rather expected, it's no less enjoyable considering the build up.

B+
