A solid B for me, much more effective thriller than I thought it would have been.

Been a while since I've seen this. Probably since it came out. I remember really enjoying it. This was right around when people started shitting on Affleck, which didn't really cease until Gone Baby Gone.

Maybe ***/****? I'd have to rewatch though.

It's a good movie. It does a very good job placing the viewer in the character's mental and physical spaces. The constant city noise, the pounding rain, the crowded family courts and cheap restaurants and severely lit cubicles, etc., etc. A bit in the vein of Bringing Out the Dead, Falling Down, and even Se7en. The viewer seriously starts to feel the anger and anxiety and gloom which defines the characters.

Affleck and Jackson both turn in credible performances. The latter hits a few classic "mother*!@#$%" notes, but also softens his screen presence nicely when called for.
