Safe was a workman-like modern action thriller that got the job done.

Jason Statham remains securely seated in the action hero throne.

6 out of 5.

Random related observation:

Statham's two movies after The Expendables 2 sound promising. First is Parker, in which he'll play the same character as Lee Marvin in Point Blank and Mel Gibson in Payback. The director is Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman, The Devil's Advocate). Next is a revenge drama called Hummingbird, the directorial debut of Eastern Promises screenwriter Steven Knight. I'm sure these films will still play to his established strengths and star qualities, but they sound a bit more prestigious and interesting than his usual fare. As much as I highly enjoy a good Statham action film, I'm convinced he can grow as an actor.

I loved this film. Much better than his last collaboration with DeNiro. Just a pure action fans delight. Russian mobsters, Chinese mobsters, cops on the take, chop soki and nothing to bog it down in between.

9/10

Man this was all sorts of horrible. Whether it is the highly cliched story, the hilariously awful dialogue, or the fact that even the action sequences can't be done even decently, this whole production misses the mark. It seems Statham's only good film is still Death Race.

I really liked this one. Easily one of the bigger positive surprises this year. The action scenes were absolutely amazing to watch and Statham ruled the movie. My second favorite Statham movie (after Blitz).

I liked it. It's not spectacular, and I think the director is in need of a few more years experience, but on the whole it was a good, enjoyable action movie. Statham has some cools scenes, if a little over-edited. The story was good, but the movie moves at too fast of a pace for any real care from the audience. I think this film just lacked a good cinematographer, editor and composer. I don't know any of the crew, but it seems like it's made by a load of Bulgarians or something. That girl is one bad actress.

I liked how brutal it was. Lots of people died that in other movies probably wouldn't have. I didn't like how the film uses a lot of badly spoken Mandarin and Russian -- it's almost too much to handle. This film solidifies Statham as the new action hero. If the 80s and 90s belonged to Stallone and Arnie, then the period of 2002-present belong solely to Statham.

B-

It is a generic, yet quite entertaining Statham-actioner (which should be considered a subgenre of its own by now). Skipping out on the final fight between Statham and that other badass guy kinda felt like a cop-out, though. I would have loved to see that fight. But on the other hand, it defied expectations by taking that route. Either way, it is a totally unmemorable, but fun film. Ranks right in the middle of Statham-led action films.
