Re: Another Earth
I saw it again today. Incredibly moving film. I don't find the Marling/Mapother interaction dull at all. Quite the opposite.
The entire movie just has this very haunting, odd quality. Your senses almost feel heightened after you watch it, at least IMO.
The musical saw scene is so great. I wish it was on YouTube so I could watch it again right now.

Re: Another Earth
I love how they convey what type of person Rhoda is pre-accident by having her drunkenly say, 'I don't want to bite into the apple of cynicism.'

Re: Another Earth
I anticipated that I would like this film easily from the start and it ended up being pretty awesome. Sure, more of the interesting Earth 2/space travel aspect may have made this a better film overall, but who can complain for the lack thereof when you get a fine-looking face and engaging performance from Brit Marling instead? She elevated the whole thing to another level.
The Rhoda/John relationship was moving in the start up until they had sex (this was the cringe-worthy scene and not them playing Wii, Magnus!) which just felt out of place. An absolute father/daughter relationship would have been more welcome, IMO. Then, it all comes down to the surprise ending which is one of the greatest aspects of the film. Would it have been an even better film had they talked to each other? Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, that single scene completed the film for me.
Overall: Beautiful shots of Earth 2 in the sky + Brit Marling + awesome ending = Top 5 of the Year

Re: Another Earth
BEAUTIFUL film! I absolutely loved this! I loved that the sci-fi aspect took a backseat to the human drama, which, in my opinion, was the most interesting part. Brit Marling is so fantastic in this and it's sad that this film and her performance will be overlooked during award season. Also award-worthy is William Mapother in his supporting turn.
I rarely blind buy new movies, but I am so glad I did this one. It's wonderful and sadly, quite underrated.
One of the year's best!
On a side note, I would have liked the "We'd have a very clean house" deleted scene to have been included in the movie. The others were interesting to watch but understandably excised.

Re: Another Earth
This irritated the shit out of me. What a waste of a premise.

Re: Another Earth
It was just as retarded as the Wii itself is.

Re: Another Earth
I quite enjoyed it, not an amazing film, but anything that gets me thinking about time / space / life is worth a few hours of my time.

Re: Another Earth
I really enjoyed watching it. It definitely had its flaws like taking the Mataphor relationshiop and the Janitor thing a few scenes too far and Earth 2 not far enough. But beautifully shot and edited, relatively well acted and written, posed interesting questions even if it left a lot open
I would've liked to see another Another Earth with taking the oppurtunities presented by the concept a bit farther, but for the most part, solid B+

Re: Another Earth
Another Earth is an interesting concept. I actually thought they would explore Earth 2 more, but the fact that it was merely just a small portion of the whole film, I liked it. Brit Marling is really good in this as is William Mapother. The film is definitely gripping at times and even sometimes a bit disturbing to watch. However, it all comes together quite well in the end. **1/2

Re: Another Earth
This is such a wonderful little underrated movie. My favorite of 2011, actually. Just a great, beautiful movie. I would really love a sequel.
