Re: Dead Man's Shoes
A compelling movie. Not perfect, but very worthy. It has an interesting approach: a revenge film where we mostly follow the thuggish villains, and where the 'righteous,' badass hero is the one in the shadows, at times almost a Michael Myers-esque presence.
Shane Meadows (This Is England) is a very gifted director with a natural touch. He sells the small-town milieu and its sleazy living-room drug dealers perfectly. And Paddy Considine, whose performance in In America is one of my all-time favorites, is always good. He doesn't do anything here to soften his character. He embraces the coldness.
