I Am Number Four is not necessarily a perfect script, but it is highly entertaining. Just like one review said, this film feels and plays out just like a very good episode of Smallville (it is written by the two men behind the series). It also stays close to the enjoyment brought by director DJ Caruso's other hits Disturbia and Eagle Eye. Alex Pettyfer does a good job here and Dianna Argon actually isn't too terrible of an actress. One aspect in the film that seemed off was Number Six's (Teresa Palmer) limited time on screen. There are a couple brief scenes with her in the first two-thirds of the film that are too far spread out that you kind of forget she was hinted at before the final battle. The film is left open for a franchise and they could very well get more enjoyable as the series goes on. ***

This looked so lame, but surprisingly, it's solid. The bad guys are hilariously awful and the love story is obviously cheesy, but it's fun and better than, say, Push. Leagues better.

Very entertaining. Alex Pettyfer is surprisingly solid in the lead. I really hope they make a sequel.

7/10 ( B )

6/10 -> C

When I went into this one I confused a trailer for some movie and actually expected a completely different movie. For some reason I was thinking this was something similar to I Am Legend. But whatever.

The start of the movie wasn't really good. It was bad and looked like a mix of Twilight and Avatar: The Last Airbender. But as the movie went along it became actually quite enjoyable. The end is definitely its best part and I'd definitely look forward to the sequel.

The only big complaint is that this didn't feel like a movie until the last 20 minutes. It felt like a TV pilot, especially with its low key setup (aliens using cars and trucks for transportation - what happened to their ship???, bad CGI iguana, TV-looking SFX, etc...).

Nice surprise.

I liked this a lot. Very entertaining, interesting setup to what could be a good series, pretty good effects. Teresa Palmer needs more screen time.

B+

I have mixed feelings.

The trailer was pretty cool but you knew it would be hiding a lackadaisical movie behind it, and so it proved. The first half an hour was pretty much Twilight/any teen fantasy/sci-fi movie you've ever seen and the direction is completely amateur. The entire production feels like a TV episode. It does get better, but the terrible flying iguana CGI, braindead aliens and completely shallow script still weigh it down.

The actors/actresses never do anything but the least amount necessary and really, each plot point, shrug, smile etc feels so generic. The narration makes it a wannabe Transformers and the epic scope its trying for pretty much fails with the poor cinematography and uncharismatic performances. Teresa Palmer is the standout playing a badass chick but she's only there for what amounts to probably 10-15minutes.

I won't say I'm that disappointed since I didn't expect much, but it's not very good either. I guess it's an okay way to pass a couple of hours but you won't remember anything later. Sequel? The way it tanked at the BO suggests not although it has much room for improvement I suppose.
