The Big Sleep
The Big SleepQuote: The Big Sleep is a 1946 film noir directed by Howard Hawks, the first film version of Raymond Chandler's 1939 novel of the same name. It stars Humphrey Bogart as detective Philip Marlowe and Lauren Bacall as the female lead in a film about the "process of a criminal investigation, not its results." William Faulkner, Leigh Brackett, and Jules Furthman co-wrote the screenplay.
In 1997, the U.S. Library of Congress deemed this film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant," and added it to the National Film Registry.

Re: The Big Sleep
I definitely need to re-watch it, on the first view I enjoyed it but wouldn't compare it to noir masterpieces lie Double Indemnity or Kiss Me Deadly. Bogart was fine and it was more funny than I expected, but the mystery components felt convoluted nearly to the point of silliness and weren't as fascinating or meaningful as other films in the genre. I liked it though.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Re: The Big Sleep
Some of the best dialogue I've ever heard the privlege of hearing. Must check out To Have or Have Not.
And the criminal aspects of this film are totally secondary to the twisted family dynamics in play.
