Midnight Movie should have been really good. It had the premise that is just made for horror movie fans. I read a lot of positive reviews on it in several horror-related publications and gave it a shot right away.

Thing is...it just isn't good. The premise is that a random bunch of folks, some horror fans, others not, are all trapped in a movie theatre which is showing a version of an unfinished banned controversial horror film. The brutal killer of the film, however, is able to literally break the fourth wall and starts killing off audience members one by one. Sounds kinda fun, doesn't it? The whole thing seems so mundane and mostly devoid of tension, though that I was just wondering where it went off the rails.

Firts of all, the characters are absolutely uninspired and uninteresting. Second, the killer does have some pretty nifty kills, but was never perceived as a huge menace by me. He's just kinda there, slaughtering the cast one by one. I did like some of the switches between reality and the horror film on screen, but that's about as far as originality and creativity goes in this one. The rest is just a standard slasher with no aspirations to be something else.
