What a terrific year for sci-fi this has been! And if Where the Wild Things Are and The Fantastic Mr. Fox's trailers are any indications, 2009 will have also been kind towards children's books. Here we're treated to:
- a terrific voice cast (Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Neal Patrick Harris, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, Benjamin Bratt)
- great use of 3-D - there's a truly spectacular scene where Flint runs through the town, into a spaghetti tornado, and down to his house in a moment that recalls Children of Men's beloved seven minute shot.
- an endlessly witty script that packs every scene chock full of gags that work.
and the end product is a comedy that rivals this year's terrific Pixar offering. This is Dreamworks-style self awareness that's witty and refreshing, not grating and tired.

What a charmer! CWACOM unexpectedly exceeded my expectations - - I never expected that!!!

The central story was nicely done. No miracles of originality, but played just right. The characters and their voices were great (Hooray for Anna Faris! ...not to forget Mr. T, NPH, and James Caan...).

The animation itself was great, the food imagery lent itself perfectly to the cgi technique. I saw it in 3D (against my better judgement) and it added nothing to this particular film - - in future I am going to insist on 2D screenings of this kind of movie.

One of my favorite aspects of CWACOM was the plethora of background and sotto voce jokes inserted everywhere. This is one of those movies that you could watch a dozen times on DVD and still be picking out hidden laughs!

A fine, fine film, and a strong contender for my favorite non-Pixar animated movie of 2009...

A great film.

Funny, entertaining, ridiculous, just campy enough to set it apart from typical animated comedies, but not too over the top. It was really quite beautiful to watch, and I felt the 3D actually, despite being gimmicky and basic, was quite noticeable and often impressive.

8/10.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a wonderful joyride from start to finish. The plot of the story is brought to beautiful light on screen and done so in such a way that there is no way one can not have atleast some fun with what is going on. The film is filled with plenty of comedy with the highlights coming from the monkey Steve. The animation is beautiful and its nice for a smaller animation studio like Sony Animation to peek in and make a mark every once and a while. It's a 90-minute joyride for sure. ***

Giant CG food fucking my eyeballs + fun story + cute characters = potential best animated film of last year (since MvA/Mary and Max come insanely close). I couldn't grade it any higher because the jokes dragged at times and the police guy was just unfunny. Seriously though, this is the greatest time I had looking at a CG cartoon's visuals since Nemo and WALL•E.
