The Oxford Murders is a somewhat disappointing affair given the cast of John Hurt and Elijah Wood and its Spanish cult director Álex de la Iglesia. While the plot is interesting at the beginning and the cast does do a good job, at some point I simply stopped caring much about the plot and about the resolution to the question as to who is the murderer and why. The film's mystery is just really not engaging and Wood's side love story with Leonor Watling's character is not interesting either.

I agree it was hard to get too engaged with any of the characters but I give the film some credit for really trying to be a smart thriller and succeeding on at least some levels. I was pleasantly surprised that they included a fairly deep mathematical concept too. There's a really good chance it was partially Pi inspired.
