Those Asylum people seem to be a fiesty bunch, getting plenty of money off of rentals. It took me three different tries to find this one rented! Sadly, it seems to have been filled in a bath tub. What's worse, all the underwater action consists of about ten different effects shots. The horribly rendered shark coming at the camera angle must have been used a couple dozen times alone. If the humans had more presence than the monsters, it's only because the beasts aren't really offered any opportunities. They happily destroy enormous inanimate objects - typically off screen - but there's nary a single person truly eaten. To be fair, it's played pretty silly, but even some purposely goofy chemistry science skits can't save this from joining the ranks of Boa Vs. Python, Leprechaun vs. Wishmaster, and Van Helsing.
