Day of the Dead (1985)
Day of the DeadQuote: Day of the Dead is a 1985 horror film directed by George A. Romero and is the third film in Romero's Dead Series, being preceded by Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978).
Director George A. Romero describes the film as a "tragedy about how a lack of human communication causes chaos and collapse even in this small little pie slice of society". This film features Sherman Howard in an early appearance as Bub and make-up artist Gregory Nicotero playing Pvt. Johnson and doing the make-up effects.

Ranking number 3 on my all-time favorite horror movie list, Day of the Dead takes plce several years after the events of Dawn of the Dead. A few military personnel and scientists take refuge in an underground storage bunker and believe they are the only humans left on earth. While in the bunker, the scientists try to find a way to reverse or stop what is causing the zombie plague, while the sadistic Captain Rhodes goes more and more insane as the movie progresses, and shoves the surviving scientists in the corral where they keep a few zombie specimens, where they are forced to fight for their lives. Meanwhile, one of the disgruntled military men has a breakdown and eventually gets bitten by a zombie and loses his arm. After that he feels that his life is over and wanting revenge on the other military officers who constantly ridiculed him, goes outside and opens the gate that holds back the zombie horde, releasing thousands into the complex. The resuly is one of the scariest and most shocking endings in horror movie history.
While not up to par with Dawn of the Dead, it's still amazing in it's own right.
