Re: RocknRolla
Really good. I liked it better than Lock, Stock but it obviously was not as good as Snatch.

Re: RocknRolla
Its not terrible, but after Ritchie's recent run of flops I expected this, his big comeback with Hollywood money, to be a little more...ambitious? Fresh? But, no, this is just the same old shit he never did that well to begin with. He seems to mistake attitude, which the film certainly does have, for wit, which it decidedly does not. For all the flash, the movie is remarkably snoozeworthy most of the time.
Every 20-25 minutes, various plots and characters (and there are way too many) would crash into each other and we'd get a good scene. But this isn't often enough. And the movie has no center; in the final minutes, it seems that the movie has really been about Mark Strong (the best thing in movie...I like this guy). This would have been fine, if only Ritchie had realized it sooner. But he didn't, and his movie is mostly a shapeless bore.
He does, however, earn some bonus points for keeping almost all of the violence (and there's a lot of it) off-screen. A surprising and welcome act of restraint.

Re: RocknRolla
Solid Guy Ritchie outing. The cast is top-notch and Ritchie's direction is, as always, flashy and fun. His filming of the chase sequence blew me away. It's not as memorable as Lock, Stock... or Snatch, but still definitely easy to recommend and one I'll watch again.

Re: RocknRolla
It's the kinda movie ya could really get into, if ya watched it about half a dozen times - - but for the single viewing, the story is way dense - - there's a whole lot goin' on. There are (literally) dozens of cool, wacked-out characters (well around two dozen actually). Some of them are played by seriously quality actors - - Thandie Newton, anyone? Hello!?! Tom Wilkinson?!? Gerard Freakin' Butler, man!!??! It's even got Ludacris and Jimi Mistry, together, for the first time EVAH!!!!!!!!
But - - yikes - - the story is ridiculously complex. But, then again, ya can view that in the classic dichotomy: Bug or Feature?
I have to tell ya - - I'm leanin' on the side of feature, cause I can see the mind of a true director behind this curtain. The Guy sure as hell knew what he was doin' with LSATSB, and wadda ya know? He brings it again with RnR in spades...
...and what can I say? I'm a sucker for his crazy ass bitchslap confidence with the announcement of the sequel title in the closing credits...

Re: RocknRolla
I saw it back in October. It was alright. I loved certain aspects of it - it was very well-edited and directed and certain characters were fun, but overall it was too all over the place for me to really say I had a good time with it. C+

Re: RocknRolla
I still highly enjoy this movie.
Ritchie's only made one bad film: Swept Away. Everything else is a blast, even Revolver.

Re: RocknRolla
Not seen Revolver yet. I had it, but sold it before I could watch it. Sherlock Holmes isn't that good. His only two good movies for me are Snatch and Lock Stock.

I really like his Holmes movies and Snatch/Lock Stock. Haven't seen the rest yet.
