So this isn't as bad as most critics are touting. Sure its about an hour to long, is filled with unneeded pointless cameos, and Spike uses an out of control Mack truck to drive home his point of racial injustice. But the core story, setting and the performances make what could be construed as an arduous watching experience into a decent film. Spike makes a throwback war movie his way and while its not a masterpiece it isn't a failure either.

Grade B-

Agree, 100%. I saw a lot of scenes and storylines that could have been reworked and left on the cutting room floor. But still better than most of the movies out now, because even though it was long, I still was rivited and engrossed in the movie. Just a good ensemable war period film.
