Quote:
Sex and the City is a 2008 American romantic comedy/blue comedy film adaptation of the HBO comedy series of the same name (itself based on the novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell) about four female friends: Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), dealing with their lives as 40-something year olds in New York City. The series often portrayed frank discussions about romance and sexuality.

The world premiere took place at Leicester Square, London on May 12, 2008, and premiered on May 28, 2008 in the United Kingdom and May 30, 2008 in the United States.

My sister saw this with a bunch of her girlfriends yesterday and liked it. She wasn't amazed by it but overall satisfied.

I'll post my thoughts later, but simply put, if you loved the show, you'll love the movie.

Had I not have gotten paid to watch this I most definitely would've stayed far far away from this movie. I guess if your a fan of the series then you'll probably enjoy this. Myself having never seen a single episode and being utterly repulsed by the horse faced tranny SJP, didn't. My biggest problem with the film, besides the over emphasis on the frightenly ugly SJP, is that they shot this as a TV show. It was photographed and paced like five twenty-two minute episodes instead one continous movie, they even left in the fade-out/fade-in between episodes. The story arc, if it had one, was predictable, boring and downight offensive.
The whole movie felt like one big man bashing fest. The guys in this very long tv show seem fairly decent and treat the gals like royalty. I know dozens of women and a few guys who'd love hook up with the type of guy portrayed in the movie. But our four self-centered, egotistical, cold, heartless, self-absorbed bitches treat the guys like shit and then wonder what happened when they get cheated on, left at the alter, or left waiting naked alone at home. The only one of the group happy with her man is Charlotte and thats because she married a pussyfied man who's just befuddled that he landed such a hot babe and doesn't want to scew it up so he constantly kisses her ass.
Like I said earlier if you're a fan of the show you'll most likely love this, if you're not then its a crap shoot at best.

Grade D-

WTF is up with SJP? She has to be one of the ugliest 'alleged' women on the planet and yet people treat her as if she's a beauty queen, why? I'm all for ugly people getting love and respect, but SJP is pushing it just a little to far.

the movie was pretty awesome actually. the first hour was riveting, full of glam, drama, and comedy. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheesy ending; they could have done something a little more fabulous. I think SJP did an awesome job and it's def her movie. dare I say it? she deserves at the very least a Golden Globe for this movie, if not an oscar nom. (yeah loved her THAT much)

Are the costumes and songs worthy of being pushed for Oscar consideration?

Yeah, this is definitely getting a Best Costume Design nomination.

"All Dressed In Love" could do it, since the Oscars obviously love Jennifer Hudson.

I didn't like it, unfortunately. It was not only predictable but there were no surprises, we basically knew everything from the trailer.

I hate how the Big storyline consumed the ENTIRE movie and most of the supporting storylines were pretty bad themselves.
I also how they treated Charlotte as nothing more than comedic relief.

I don't know, the writing was just pretty darn bad. But truth be told, I wasn't expecting to be wowed. I was all giddy and excited but I knew deep down as I told my best friend before we went in, I was expecting to be disappointed.

I don't know what to rate it yet but the highest it will get is a B- from me. :(

They could have done something really fabulous with it.

Four years after the sensational series came to a close, HBO's "Sex and the City" finally makes the jump to the big screen. Thankfully, it does not disappoint. This is sure to satisfy any fan of the television series. It's hilarious, smart, incredibly entertaining, heartfelt and just plain fun. Sarah Jessica Parker is fantastic here, proving why she made Carrie Bradshaw such an unforgettable character. Also great are Kristin Davis, who is charming as Charlotte, and Kim Cattrall, who is laugh-out-loud hysterical as Samantha. Cynthia Nixon was very good as well, but she has always been my least favorite character and the same held true in the feature adaptation. I did love many scenes with her though, namely the New Years' sequence (which was incredibly touching). All four of the actresses bring out the best in one another and share an undeniable chemistry. On the supporting front, newcomer Jennifer Hudson delivers a fun, understated performance as Carrie's lovelorn assistant, and returning cast members such as Chris Noth and Evan Handler are solid in their roles as well. I wouldn't recommend this film to those who are unfamiliar with the series, but to those who are prepare for one of the summer's biggest delights. This is a fantastic feature adaptation that I instantly fell in love with. And any true fan of the series will love it as well. A

My #2 of the year behind Cloverfield.

I agree, although I thought Charlotte was much more enjoyable here than in the series. I was disapointed with Samantha's story, but she made every scene she was in work.

I liked it overall: B+

Samantha, all the way - though I really love the entire group. KC really, really made her bit work, even when she wasn't given the most to work with. Kudos to her.

Oh.my.god.

Wow. That was sooo worth the wait. Every second of it. Love, love, loved the movie. Never boring, and, to be a bit gay, always fabulous. Everything, the costumes, the music, and yeah, even the writing, were perfect. I don't know how you could fault the writing, it was easily as good as that from the show. Nothing to deep which is what made the show so great. This isn't Children of Men people, don't expect a diatribe on the meaning of life!

Yeah. Loved it.
