Step Up 2: The Streets (often stylized as Step Up 2 the Streets) is the 2008 sequel to the 2006 film Step Up from Touchstone Pictures. It was directed by Jon Chu, and choreographed by Jamal Sims, Hi-Hat (Bring It On) and Dave Scott (Stomp the Yard). Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment produced with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot of Offspring Entertainment and Anne Fletcher, the director of the original film.

Post Re: Step Up 2 the Streets
The dancing in this film is good. Everything else is terrible. It all feels so ridiculously overdramatic and staged, thanks in large part to the awful screenplay. The characters are so underdeveloped that it is impossible to feel anything for them, and the storyline follows every cliche in the book. The acting isn't anything special either. Briana Evigan does a decent job in the leading role and should benefit from this film career-wise. Robert Hoffman is bland as the love interest, but serviceable enough. The supporting players are all forgettable, with one exception. I have to mention Will Kemp's performance as the typical "disapproving dean of students." It is, in all honesty, one of the worst performances I've ever seen in any major motion picture. I was cringing every time he was onscreen because of how unbearably awful he was. The first film wasn't great, but I had a good time watching it and both of the leads were appealing. This one is just an unneccessary bore. It feels like an extended music video where the sole purpose is to sell a soundtrack. Save The Last Dance still holds the title as the best film of this "teen dance" genre, a position that won't be overtaken anytime soon if this is any indication. C-

I usually don't want to see these movies but this one was an exceptation (mostly because Briana Evigan looked fine as hell in this). It was really fun though and I'm definetly getting this on DVD.

A/A+

I never gave any film of this sort an A+. The only films I gave that rating to last year were Atonement, TWBB, Sweeney, Diving Bell, Stardust and Pirates, the first five of which most agree are deserving ;)

Only your pot is purple, Squee.

Giving Step Up 2 an A+ is about the same as giving Pirates 3 an A+. They're about equally deserving of that grade.

4/10 -> D

I liked the first movie. This one is a complete mess. Though it had a nice setup idea, everything was off. The characters were meh, the dancing was just OK (there were no cool moves - they should have used bits and pieces of new dances like tectonic) and the music was generic r'n'b.

*just so you know, dancing is one of my favorite thing to do.. after watching movies*

Although the expected generic 'let-me-live-my-life' storyline is still here. Fortunately, 'Step Up 2' was less on drama, more on 'do the dance, baby'. It's about dancing sequences all the way end. And they are all incredible. And may I add, the so-called drama part came out lots better than the first one. The characters are much more colorful, memorable and watchable. That Chinese girl alone is enough to challenge anyone of those in the first one. I've got what I looked for, I'm satisfied.

Oh, actually, this movie is kind of painful to watch, really. With those amazing soundtracks, it's really painful that all I can do is just listening and watching those people do the dance, I wanna make my move!

B+

Not as horrible as I thought it would be. The first sucked, and I hate movies like this. I only saw it because the lead guy, Robert Hoffman, is hot. It's worth seeing for him alone. The movie itself was OK. I'd give it something like a 6/10 (C+).

I'm a sucker for dance flicks. Not sure why.

But I liked it.

Briana Evigan is cute, no doubt about it. The movie still stunk though.

That is the only reason I saw this. I wish we got a bit extra from her. :thumbsup:

Similar to first movie though the story is pretty non-existent here. The dance and music are great again. Really no improvement over the last movie.
