When did Woody Allen get to the point where he can take good actors a decent premise and make a boring film. I was intrigued by the trailer for this film and when I finally got the chance to see it there was something about it that didn't click. Boring is the best word to describe this film, its not good or bad it just leaves one feeling indifferent and bored while watching it, which is not a good thing for a film to do.

Grade C-/D+

I thought it was pretty good.

Allen proves, again, to be pretty deft at handling this whole thriller thing. If only he wouldn't have shied away from mining the macabre humor that keeps bubbling so close to the surface, this could have been a real Hitchcockian gem. It's a little too similar in subject matter and tone to Match Point, but it's effective enough anyway.

A pleasant surprise. It's a very handsome production, too.

Woody Allen should try himself on thrillers more often. Match Point and Cassandra's Dream prove that. Casandra's Dream is continuing one of Match Point's themes, that of guilt and expands it. Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor both give solid performances with Farrell shining a bit more and Tom Wilkinson is as good as ever. Hayley Atwell is positively alluring. I just wish Sally Hawkins had a bigger role.

The movie does not break new ground and it is not quite as good as Match Point...but it is a solid late effort for Allen and shows his screenwriting strengths once again. I really enjoyed the ending.
