Quote:
Memoirs of an Invisible Man is a 1992 film directed by John Carpenter and released by Warner Bros., with many scenes taking place in and around San Francisco. The film is loosely based on a 1987 novel of the same name by H.F. Saint. According to William Goldman's book Which Lie Did I Tell?, the film was initially developed for director Ivan Reitman; however, this version never came to fruition, due to disagreements between Reitman and Chevy Chase. The director deviated from his usual practice of titling the film as "John Carpenter's" because he knew that Warner Brothers would not allow him full artistic control, saying that the studio "is in the business of making audience-friendly, non-challenging movies."

A mixture of comedy, drama, suspense and science fiction, it stars Chevy Chase, Darryl Hannah, Sam Neill, Michael McKean and Stephen Tobolowsky.

I'm going to go out and say that this is probably the most underrated Carpenter and Chevy Chase film of all time. The Special effects are awesome and the cat and mouse along with the drama is very well done. It's refreshing for it to not turn into a horror movie, when in fact the idea of being invisible is horrific on its own.

Chevy Chase really only made one good movie in the since Christmas Vacation, and this is it. A bomb from 1992. He leaves the comedic side and plays more of the cool fast talker that he made famous. Sure it probably tanked because it wasn't a comedy, but I think its definitely underrated. Sam Neil is pretty great as the villian too.

B+
