An excellent film. Cool, tense fun courtesy of the brilliant David Mamet. Val Kilmer's great as the Bauer/Bourne-esque Robert Scott. A.

Great score, great acting, great script.

The only thing that bothered me about the film was.... (spoilers in white) the fact that everyone who helped Kilmer's character died.

Anyway, solid film. ***1/2

A great thriller. I give it a an A. One of the better films of 2004.

For those in-the-know, my "spartan" Spartan review is as follows: %)

For everyone else, my expanded Spartan review: Way better than I ever expected!

Though I clearly count myself a David Mamet fan, I was underwhelmed by his recent work (such as that atrocious screenplay for Hannibal (!?)).

Spartan was chock full of super-cool dialogue (natch!) and the story was a lovely nested reality number that actually made sense. There were so many well tuned elements to this movie, that while watching it, my mind would still be savoring one while three more had zipped by. I'm going to need to see this one again, and boy, I can't wait! This is Mamet at the top of his form.

7 out of 5.

Ironic you said this, as I just watched Hannibal. I read that the actual script writer (Zaillian?) pretty much re-wrote all of Mamet's stuff, but Mamet still had to be credited as per WGA guidelines. So you can't really blame him for that.

As for the film at hand, it's been a few years since I've seen it, so I'm not gonna grade it until I see it again.

Pretty average thriller. Val Kilmer was really cool here, tough. I have not seen a single trailer or tv-spot for this so I watched it totally 'blind'. After the movie I watched the trailer and was really shocked how much they gave away, pretty much the entire movie. B-

I watched this years ago. Mediocre. I'd like to watch it again as I don't remember much about it.

This film has only gotten better for me as the years have gone by. It's very subtle, but works on many levels. My grade has grown to an A+.

Oooh, I'm very interested to know what many levels this film works on...

When you eventually turn 15, and then continue to mature, you will begin to understand what Thegun is talking about.

I genuinely am interested, moron. I remember very little about this film, hence why I'd like to know. You can stick to your elitist and infantile comments. I'll wait for an adult to reply..
