Freejack
FreejackQuote: Freejack is a 1992 science fiction film directed by Geoff Murphy, starring Emilio Estevez, Mick Jagger, Rene Russo, Jonathan Banks, Grand L. Bush and Anthony Hopkins. Upon its release in the United States, the film received mostly negative reviews. The story was adapted from Immortality, Inc., a 1959 novel by Robert Sheckley. Aside from the most basic elements — the journey of a modern man into a future where everything is for sale, and the presence of a "spiritual switchboard" in which souls are suspended — the cyberpunk plot bears little resemblance in tone or content to Sheckley's story, which depicts a world of zombies.

Hmmm I'm really on a dystopian movie marathon at the moment, anyways on to Freejack.
What is good about Freejack? Tough question I must admit indeed Freejack is a veritable 101 of bleak future cliches.
Everything from Hopkins shady millionaire to the fact that in everyone of these movies the sanitation department seems to have gone on strike screams lazy writing.
The main idea is rather novel thou. Emilio Estevaz's hard charging single seater race driver is plucked away from a deadly crash at the last moment to the year 2009 (which looks pretty shitty it must be said) where Hopkins plans to use his body to transfer his Mind to, adding to his life but ending Emileo. Unfortunately for Hopkins the people who captured Emilio are idiots and he escapes to a scary future world of general crappiness while hot on his tail is Freejack hunter Mick Jagger, gloriously pouty lips in tow.
From then on we get the standard chase movie. Jagger chases, Emileo runs. Rinse Repeat and so on throw in Emilio's old girlfriend from the past (Rennie Russo sporting a scary 80s hair-do, damnit women its the future!!!) as a love interest and bang you have a movie that works on paper but not much else.
The repetitive nature counts against it, and with no truly interesting characters to root for your left feeling a little cold. That said there is a kick to be gotten from seeing Jagger on screen, he can't act VERY well in the traditionAL sense but he's the most enjoyable thing here.
The effects are rather shoddy as well and in the end despite the idea Freejack ends up being an unsatisfying Sci-Fi experience
