The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
The Life Aquatic with Steve ZissouQuote: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is an American comedy-drama film directed, written, and co-produced by Wes Anderson. It is Anderson's fourth feature length film, released in the U.S. on December 25, 2004. It was written by Anderson and Noah Baumbach and was filmed in and around Naples, Ponza and the Italian Riviera.
The offbeat comedy stars Bill Murray as Steve Zissou, an eccentric oceanographer who sets out to exact revenge on the "Jaguar shark" that ate his partner Esteban. Zissou is both a parody of and homage to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, to whom the film is dedicated.
Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, Jeff Goldblum, Anjelica Huston and Owen Wilson also are featured in the film.
It was released May 10, 2005 on DVD as part of The Criterion Collection. The film has built a small cult following.

I'm going to check it out in a few minutes here in the "cruise movie theater" (It's actually a pretty decent size theater, except the chairs are too damn uncomfortable). If I can I will check back in once the movie is over. If not, I will give my thoughts sometime tomorrow.

Leaving the theater, I can almost say with complete confidence that I was the only one in the theater who loved the film.
The good thing about the movie, that I was surprised about, was how funny it actually was. I was expecting something more along the lines of the humor in The Royal Tenenbaums (Which was funny but more darker), but most of the humor in this film is more subtle which made the film laugh out loud funny (At least for me).
This is the movie that people will either love or hate this year.
A+

I finally saw it. Yes, I put it on my Top 10 marquee before I saw it, and rightfully took it off. But, it just barely lost out to making the list. I think... the only major concern that I had was the runtime. I think a good 15 minutes could have been taken out, and much of the film would still have been great. Still a really great movie.

Hated it. Funnily I loved the trailer so I gave it a try. Maybe this is just not my type of humor. Didn't liked the Royal Tenenbaums too. D+

Same, except that I didn't like the trailer (my dad forced me to watch this...), and I haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums.

A/A- Hugely overlooked. It's not for everyone's tastes, but if it's for yours then you're in for a serious treat.

I thought it was OK. Pretty good up until
*spoilers!!*
Ned died. Thought that was completely unneccassary and a huge downer.
*spoilers ended!!*
It was funny, but that part just kind of ruined it.

Really? I laughed my brains out during that scene Squee. Ask bABA, he was there. The whole entire theatre wanted to kill me.

Well I suppose "huge downer" doesnt really do it for me. Maybe I should say instead "was a confusing decision. Dont get it. "huh?" "

I never could have imagined that they'd screw up despite such a cast. It is mildly funny, but the whole movie is way too offbeat for my taste. It tries to be smart, witty and oh-so-intelligent and deep. Fails pretty much on all of them. It is weird. Being John Malkovich is weird as well, but in a good way. This one isn't.

Less annoying and more hilarious Wes Anderson than his previous two. And I actually liked Owen Wilson!

My least favorite Wes film. Nowhere near The Royal Tenenbaums and The Darjeeling Limited. Still entertaining, though, and, of course, a feast for the eyes and ears.

"Be Still Cody!"
Jeff Goldbloom and William Defoe are hilarious, and Bill Murray is epic. I Think this is one film where Anderson's Style of filmmaking worked perfectly with the theme it was trying to satire. The story itself is pretty weak but everything else is top notch, and I love the music.
A+

Re: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Funny - it looks great, it has lots of great lines, it's got a great plot, great actors - and yet I thought there was something missing. The narrative momentum just wasn't quite there I guess. Still really good though.
This is also the best Bill Murray performance I've seen. Maybe one of the best male performances I've seen period... just incredible. I'd put it as Owen Wilson's career best too. And the hottest Cate Blanchett has been. Great actor's showcase overall.
