Quote:
The Birds is a 1963 suspense horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock based on the 1952 novella The Birds by Daphne du Maurier. It depicts Bodega Bay, California which is, suddenly and for unexplained reasons, the subject of a series of widespread and violent bird attacks over the course of a few days.

The screenplay was written by Evan Hunter. Though Hunter read Du Maurier's original novel, Hitchcock told him to forget it as all he wished to use was the title and the idea of birds attacking people.

Maybe Hitch's best.

A good film (though overrated) from the master of suspense. B+

Next to The Exorcist, the most over rated horror film, imo. I didn't find it scary or well done.

4/10

Post Re: The Birds
A rewatch (on the big screen) confirms this as my favourite Hitchcock. It's basically just Hitch playing with the audience throughout - first with the same kind of narrative misdirection as Psycho, albeit in a much lighter fashion, and then with the tongue-in-cheek references to his other works - and I love his trickery and sense of humour. Plus it's probably his best-edited film, and features some of the best uses of montage in classical Hollywood cinema. It is silly, but it's also terrifically terrifying.
